(South Lake Tahoe) Good fishing for mackinaw is taking place at Lake Tahoe, despite the fact that the fish are striking tentatively as they stage for the spawn. Kokanee are still on tap at the lake too, but few anglers are targeting them.

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters has been providing his clients with limit style mackinaw action at Lake Tahoe. This week his fish have averaged 2 to 5 pounds with the occasional larger fish showing.

Minnows teamed with dodgers and flashers have been the magic combination for St. Denis and depths ranging from 100 to 220 feet have been the most productive. St. Denis has been working off Cal Neva, Sugar Pine and Dollar Points.

Mickey Daniels of Mickey’s Big Mack Charters has been focusing his activity in Carnelian Bay with good results. Daniels has been doing the best early, but he’s been catching fish throughout the morning hours. His clients have been keeping a few fish for the table, but the lion’s share of the fish have been tagged and released.

The folks at Tahoe Sportfishing have been putting their clients on productive mackinaw fishing while both jigging and trolling. Their anglers are scoring limits and near limits on a daily basis.
