Steelhead Grab Baits And Lures

Species: Steelhead
Location: Rogue River,

The ODFW reported that steelhead fishing was really good for plunkers over the weekend, but slowed as the river has dropped and cleared.

Drift boat anglers may want to float Foster Bar to Agness for some good side drifting for adult steelhead and half-pounders. Lower water later in the week will make for good conditions to catch steelhead with a fly or tossing spinners from one of the many access sites along the lower river.

On the middle Rogue, some late run summer steelhead are available and they are mixed with winter run fish. Traditionally anglers working the middle river find success casting flies, drifting night crawlers, or casting spinners like a Panther Martin with a black body and gold blade.

On the upper Rogue, angling pressure is light on the upper river. Some late run summer steelhead are available, and some winter fish should be showing at times despite low water conditions.

As of press time the release from Lost Creek Reservoir was 900 cfs, while the flow at Gold Ray was 1650 cfs with a peak water temperature 43 degrees. At Cole Rivers, 123 summer steelhead entered the hatchery the week of Jan. 18, bring the total to 1,869. Four winter steelhead were also reported in the collection pond.
