Things are heating up in the Berkeley and Emeryville Marinas. There is a great striper bite underway in San Pablo Bay and the salmon season will kick off on April 5.

According to Fish Sniffer columnist and Hot Sheet author David Hurley, Captain Jim Smith of the Happy Hooker ran into San Pablo Bay on Saturday for 18 quick limits of stripers and a bonus 8-pound halibut on the way back to the harbor. He is dialed in on the bass with 8 limits on Thursday and 25 stripers for 15 anglers on Friday. The women had the top fish of the week with Claudice Weber taking Friday’ s jackpot at 11 pounds and Cynthia Philpott of Oakland putting in a 15-pounder on Saturday.

The New Easy Rider and other East Bay charter boats that target kings are getting ready for the April 5 opener. There is good sign outside the Golden Gate, so anglers are hoping for a productive opener.

If you’re fishing in the Berkeley area, be sure to stop by the Berkeley Marina Sportfishing Center. Ray Niford is running the newly updated store. The store features a full line of bait and fishing gear from manufacturers like Phenix, Avet, Shimano, Diawa, Okuma, P-Line, Shakespeare and Trokar.

Niford takes reservations for several charter boats when they are running such as the California Dawn, Eldorado, Eldorado 3, Golden Eye 2000, Sun Fish, Happy Hooker and New Easy Rider.
