(Yuba City) Until water temperatures cool down and more salmon enter the system, striped bass will continue to offer the top action on the Sacramento River in the Knights Landing, Meridian, Colusa and Chico areas.

“Boaters and bank anglers are catching a salmon here and there on the Sacramento,” said Bob Boucke at Johnson’s Bait and Tackle. “I hope that more fish start moving upriver with the full moon.”

Anglers are hooking some striped bass up to 30 pounds while fishing plastic worms, wormtail jigs, swimbaits and flies in the Ward’s Landing and Colusa areas. “They’re throwing a little of everything out,” he said.

For salmon, guides are heading further upriver to Red Bluff where the water temperature is much colder. James Stone of Elite Sportsmen Guide Service experienced “very good” fishing on his latest two trips between Red Bluff and Woodson Bridge.

“We landed 6 salmon one day and 4 kings the next while fishing roe,” said Stone. “They were bright fish going up to 24 pounds.”
