It’s been a great season for sturgeon and striped bass in a variety of areas, including San Pablo Bay, Suisun Bay, the Napa Rive and Montezuma Slough.

Steve Mitchell of Hook’d Up Sportfishing reported 2 sturgeon - one 60 incher and a shaker - for 4 anglers on a trip to the Napa River on Sunday, April 6. The anglers fished with roe and eel.

“On our three previous trips to Montezuma Slough, we had 6 sturgeon including 1 keeper and 5 oversized; 6 sturgeon including 2 keepers, 3 oversized and one shaker; and 6 sturgeon including 1 keeper and 5 oversized,” he reported.

The 9 anglers aboard the Morning Star bagged 12 bass and one 56 inch sturgeon during a trip to San Pablo Bay east of the Pumphouse on Sunday, April 6.

“The stripers ranged from 4 to 6 pounds,” said Gordon Hough, captain of the Morning Star. “We fished ghost and mud shrimp and caught between 20 and 25 sand and leopard sharks, including one keeper leopard. We also released 20 skates, 16 bat rays and two small sevengill sharks. There were a lot of hungry fish where we stopped.”
