Sturgeon And Stripers Lead Spring Angling Parade

Species: Stripers Sturgeon Bass
Location: Sacramento River- Delta, San Joaquin Delta,

Delta winds were not a deterrent this week for anglers in the area, with both sturgeon and striped bass being landed on a consistent basis.

Anglers staying local experienced excellent fishing for both anadromous species this week according to Jason Sheppard of Rio Vista Bait and Tackle.

"Sturgeon are being caught right down the road by the Coast Gaurd Station. We had one guy land a fish off the bank at Sandy Beach," he said. "Both directions, down by the powerlines and up towards Cache are also good places to try.”

"Guys going for stripers are doing really well out on the San Joaquin, with trolling, jigging and bait fishing all working. For trolling, try out by Eddo's to the mouth of the Mokelumne. You can bait fishing out that way too," Sheppard tipped.

Other anglers in Rio Vista stayed out of the wind to chase other species, according to Sheppard.

"A lot of largemouth bass are being caught locally, but these guys have been tight lipped about where they're getting them. Catfish are being caught out in Three Mile Slough."
