Despite the lack of rainfall, sturgeon fishing took a swing in the right direction this week, while striped bass continue to be on tap for Delta anglers.
After seeing slow action in the last month, sturgeon are now starting to show to the north of Rio Vista, according to Jason Sheppard of Rio Vista Bait and Tackle.
"They're catching them around the ferry in Steamboat Slough, but they're also catching them around the Powerlines, Sherman Island and down towards Pittsburg," he said.
Grass shrimp, eel and fresh salmon roe were Sheppard's recommendations for the diamondbacks.
"Stripers are hitting real slow now with the water being cold, but they're catching them on a daily basis on blood worms, sardines and shad. I'm selling a lot of mudsuckers, but I haven't gotten much feedback on if they're working,” said Sheppard.
Decker Island, Sherman Island and the Rio Vista Bridge were Sheppard's top recommended areas.
