The Fish Sniffer - Target Calero Bass By Flippin’ In The Weeds
Target Calero Bass By Flippin’ In The Weeds

Written By: Roland Aspiras, July 23, 2014
Species: Bass Catfish
Location: Coyote Lake, Calero Reservoir,

(Coyote) Largemouth bass and channel catfish top the summer angling interest in the Silicon Valley with both species providing excellent action.

Finesse applications for bass continued to be effective this week, according to Jason Costlovich at Coyote Bait and Tackle. Drop shot rigs and darter heads are both working.

"At Calero, there's a good flip bite in the grass. If its windy or cloudy you can try throwing reaction baits,” he said. "They're catching reaction fish at Anderson and a paddletail swimbait with a 1/2 ounce head is working well, but otherwise drop shot rigs are your best bet.”

Catfish anglers reaped rewards in other parts of the valley. "Uvas and Chesbro are good for the catfish right now. We had a 25 pounder come in from Chesbro," Costlovich related.

"The cats are being caught both at night and during the day, but it seems the fishing is just as good during the day," he added.
