Location: Pyramid Lake,
Interest is beginning to wane on the shore fishing front at Pyramid Lake. Local legend, Jeff Morris, reported that on one of his last trips to the lake he caught one nice 9 lb cutthroat.
Another local fly fisherman, Brandon Reeder, disclosed that he had only caught 2 fish on his last 3 trips. Brandon doesn’t usually pound it from sun up until sundown, but the poor amount of catching on his brief trips gives an idea what direction the bank bite is headed. Brandon also related that he had heard of guys catching up to 50 fish on recent shore fishing trips. Brandon doubtfully said, “I’m not sure if those guys know how to count from 1 to 50…”
If you simply must get out and make a Pyramid Shore trip in the near future, plan on fishing on an overcast day with a little breeze if at all possible. At this point in the season beaches like Pelican and the Nets Beaches will offer a last shot at straggling spawners.
Look forward to an improved trolling bite for post spawn fish beginning at the end of May. Most years the bite is very good around Warrior’s Point. All the usual suspects such as U20 Flatfish, Apex’s, and Lyman’s will catch fish until the season closes on June 30th. Call Crosby’s Lodge for the most recent fishing report.
