Fishermen from near and far are having great luck on big, bold rainbow trout at Frenchman Lake.
John, a man from Cold Springs, NV (near Bordertown),got a limit totaling 8 ½ lbs while soaking worms. One of his fish weighed 3-½ lbs, according to Richard Wiggin at Wiggin’s Trading Post.
Yoe from Monterrey, Mexico caught 4 limits of rainbows in 4 days fishing with worms and Gulp eggs.
“We received about 12 inches of new snow over the weekend,” reported Jeanne Graham at J&J Grizzly Store and Camping Resort in Portola. “We did not receive any new fishing reports from the fishermen that braved the cold.”
Before the snow hit the lake, boaters trolling 1.4 to 1.6 MPH at about 10 feet reported hooking good numbers of trout on a variety of spoons and spinners.
Bank anglers reported hooking rainbows at Mallard Cove, Coot Bay and Grasshopper while using Power Bait, Pautzke salmon eggs and nightcrawlers.
The boat dock at Camp Five is in the water. The lake level is 67% and the surface water temperature is is in the low to mid forties.
Reminder: No fishing is allowed in Honker Cove. All streams flowing into Lake Davis are closed until the Saturday before Memorial Day. At the dam area, anglers must be North of the Buoy.
