Trollers Battle Stripers To 42 Pounds
Striped bass top the charts with an influx of fish being landed from the West Bank, along with salmon for patient trollers working the Isleton area.
"Really good," was the comment from Alan Fong at Fisherman's Warehouse at Sacramento this week, on the trolling bite from the Sacramento River. "A lot of the guys are going out to the West Bank shallow trolling. Some of them are getting 20-30 stripers a day.”
While many of the fish are school sized, Fong noted that "Mark Wilson had a 42 pounder last week."
John Gill at the reel sales counter also experienced good action last week with a few schools landed to 8 pounds in the West Bank area.
Salmon continue to trickle in, with only a few fish being landed. "A lot of the fish are shooting up the river as fast they can, but some of the guys are catching a few on silvertrons and plugs early in the morning," said Craig Kamikawa, assistant manager.
