Red hot fishing is underway in the West Delta. The sturgeon bite remains excellent in Suisun Bay and the lower end of the Sacramento River, but the big news is the outstanding bass fishing that trollers are now experiencing.
Captain David Hammond of Delta Pro Fishing has been putting his clients on limits of bass while trolling the West Bank and other areas of the West Delta. When he’s not trolling he continues to enjoy success while targeting sturgeon.
“The trolling bite is really good right now,” said Hammond. “We’ve been getting our fish on worm tipped Yo-Zuris. A lot of the fish are in the 5 or 6 pound class, but we’ve been hooking and landing larger bass too.”
Scott Feist of Feisty Fish Guide Service has also been hooking big numbers of stripers while trolling the West Delta. Scott typically does his striper fishing further up river, but with the low water conditions this year, he is spending some of his time plying the Delta.
Captain Jay Lopes of Right Hook Sportfishing is having great success targeting sturgeon in Suisun Bay with roe and eel. On most days his clients are landing keepers and some trips are featuring multiple keepers.
Lopes is also offering striper trolling adventures. Jay does his sturgeon fishing from his Parker cruiser headquartered in Martinez. He chases stripers from his Jetcraft.
Captain Chris Smith of Captain Hook Sportfishing also reports very good sturgeon action in Suisun Bay.
“The sturgeon bite has been very consistent and we are getting keepers on most trips,” said Smith.
