Trout And Catfish Pace Late Summer Fun
Trout fishing has been fair to good at Lake Davis, while the catfish action continues to be very good.
“Bank fishing has been good at Mallard using nightcrawlers or powerbait; early morning has been most productive,” reported Jeanne Graham of the J&J Grizzly Store and Camping Resort.
“Trollers are finding trout scattered throughout the lake,” said Graham. “The best results have been in the channel on the east side; 10-15 feet in the morning going down to 20+ in the afternoon, especially on warm days. Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Red Dot Frog, and Fire Tiger have all been seeing results.”
She hasn’t heard any fly fishing reports lately. However, damsels, blood midge, mayflies, wooly buggers, wiggle tails, or ice cream cones should all work.
“Catfishing has been good at Camp 5 and Eagle Point,” she noted. “Use nightcrawlers or catfish baits.”
“Due to several fires burning in California, we have been experiencing very smoky conditions at Frenchman Lake this past week,” reported Richard Wiggin at Wiggin’s Trading Post in Chilcoot. “This has kept some people away, and as a result, we have not received many reports on the fishing.”
Mitch, a regular fisherman at Frenchman, caught three rainbows weighing a total of 6 pounds while using worms for bait at the dam
The Frenchman boat ramp, which has been undergoing construction and repaving this summer, is now scheduled to reopen on August 31st.
Cottonwood Family Campground will be closing for the season this week. All of the other campgrounds at Frenchman are still open.Back To Reports
