Shore anglers and boaters sampling the low waters of Topaz Lake since it opened on January 1 have experienced tough trout fishing.
“Opening day was very slow and it has been slow ever since,” said Chuck Fields at Topaz Landing. “Trollers and bank fishermen landed a few rainbow trout, but I didn’t see any limits caught.”
“Most of the fish landed to date in 2014 have been in the 10 to 12 inch range, although I saw one 2 pounder caught by an angler,” said Fields.
The ramp at Topaz Landing is currently 30 to 50 feet from the water and the County Park ramp is also out of the water. Bank fishing is also difficult. “Anglers have to cast their nightcrawlers, Power Bait and other offerings as far as they can just to get into 3 feet of water,” he noted.
