Species: Trout
Location: Frenchman Lake, Davis Lake,

The J &J Grizzly Store and Camping Resort announced that the annual Ice Fishing Tournament will take place at Lake Davis on February 1.

Anglers will check in at the store from 7 to 9 am and the fishing starts at: 8:00 am. Weigh-in ends at 3:00 pm.

A total of two fish per person can be weighed in. Combined length and weight of each fish determine placement. The entry fee is $ 20. For more information, contact (530) 832-0270.

“There were several fisherman on the ice today,” said Jeanne Graham at the J&J Grizzly Store. “They did not stop in the store to give us any further details. Just remember, the ice is NOT officially monitored, you go on the ice at your own risk! “

Richard Wiggin at Wiggins’s Trading Post in Chilcoot reported that they received about 8 to 10 inches of snow at Frenchman Lake over the past week and temperatures dropped to about 15 to 20 degrees below zero.

“We have heard that the north end of the lake is frozen, and there is ice at the dam, but we do not know if it is safe enough for fishing yet,” he stated.

“The road leading to the lake is plowed to the dam. We saw many Christmas tree cutters this past week and those with 4 wheel drive vehicles are not having any trouble getting around the lake,” he added.
