Now that the 2013 salmon season has wrapped up on the Sacramento River anglers are now focusing on trout and steelhead and the action has ranged from fair to very good depending on the day.
“The river is low right now, but it’s not overly cold during the day so there is some pretty good trout and steelhead fishing available,” disclosed Mike Bogue of Mike Bogue’s Guide Service.
“I’ll be targeting the trout and steelhead with conventional gear. If possible I like to get the fish while back trolling plugs. If that tactic doesn’t work I break out the glo bugs and Pautzke Salmon Eggs,” related Bogue.
Jason Thatcher of JT Guide Service reported very good action for anglers targeting Sacramento River trout with fly gear.
“There aren’t a ton of spawning salmon in the river, so nymph imitations are outpacing egg imitations at this time, but I’m still tossing in the odd bead or egg imitation on my multiple fly leaders. Sometimes those big rainbows want an egg whether there are eggs in the river or not,” quipped Thatcher.Back To Reports
