Union Valley, Sly Park Macks The Only Game In Town
Dog days of summer and lost Union Valley Reservoir kokanee for 2013 have pretty much meant anglers need to focus on deep water mackinaw for a chance at a bite up in the Crystal Basin.
“Kokanee are still tough to find at Union Valley,” said Ken Mathis at Ken’s Custom Tackle. “We are seeing a consistent mack bite 150-175 feet deep using our glow double flutters or dodgers paired with herring. The depth will confine you to certain areas of the lake, but anglers should see some macks for their efforts.”
“High surface temperatures have killed the Ice House and Loon trout bite,” reported Dale Daneman of Dale’s Foothill Fishing. “Trips to both lakes showed surface water at 72 degrees and we were able to pick up about three fish on the 8-10 inch range at each lake – until we get some cooler water, these lakes will remain tough.”
“Action at Jenkinson Lake has been slow – but Charlie Craig pulled out a nice two pound mack, working the Narrows,” reported Sara at Sly Park Lake Resort. “A few trout have been picked up at the dam on PowerBait.”
Private boater reports show French Meadows offering up a few small trout for their efforts, while Hell Hole has been very tough.Back To Reports
