I just couldn't resist any longer and took a trip up to the river. The night before I new I had to be on the road by 0200 to make a 0530 launch time so an early dinner was necessary so off to Panda Express. So off to bed and up at em early... High tide was just past noon and we were on the water by 0545 and it was great just getting things set up and on the water. The water temp started at 71 and ended up at 74 degrees with weeds on the incoming period of the tide so not too ideal but I just had to make the trip.
After an initial take town w/in the first five minutes on a Brads cut plug bait I was optimistic. Our other three setup were Silvertrons (Blue/Silver and Pearl/Chartreuse), one ounce weight with a 70'-100' set back. I spent the morning marking what appeared to be a decent sized group of fish near Vierra's but got no action at all. Then as the tide started to switch to incoming they disappeared. At about 1000 we packed up and headed up river to see if we could spot the pod again now that the tide had really started inbound. We stopped at the Isleton Bridge and scented our spinners and started down stream as we approached the grain elevator my starboard side outboard pole got heavy. The line started to cross over the other three lines (switched all my line to hi-vis yellow to avoid crossing lines and seeing things clearer behind the boat, thank goodness!), still no clicker and the drag was not releasing any line. Strange bite but I knew it was a fish (Pearl/Chartreuse Silvertron), we cleared the other lines and then the fun began. This fish was hot and gave me three good runs and he had an attitude of a much bigger fish, he weighed just shy of 23 pounds. After twenty minutes my buddy Gary and I were happy to have our fist fish on board for 2013.We ran back up river and started back down and within fifty feet of the first fish we had another take-down on another Silvertron (Blue/Silver)was a more traditional thump and the pole doubled over and the reel made that sweet song of screaming line. After ten or so minutes Gary had alongside the boat a nice 16 pound hen. Overall two in the box, off the water at 1330 with two nice fish. Looking forward to my next trip which be over a whole weekend, seriously long day when you have to drive from South of Fresno and back!
