Water Cools, Bigger Rainbows Bite…
The best trout fishing of the year is poised to bust loose at Eagle Lake. The recent cooling trend has pushed solid numbers of fish into relatively shallow water and they are biters.
“The bite is definitely picking up,” related Cliff Spediacci of Hook & Ladder Guide Service. “Last week a couple of 4 pounders and a 3 pounder were caught. This is a great sign, as the rainbows we had been seeing were all in the 2.5 pound class. I think things are going to get really exciting during the second half of October.”
“Right now you probably want to be in the southern basin working the shallow flats and shallow water structure. The top offerings are either a rigged worm or a Sep’s grub,” added Spediacci.
The Eagle Lake RV Park reported solid action for both trollers and bobbers anglers. Bobber anglers are scoring near Black Mountain, the Eagle’s Nest, Shrimp Island and the Youth Camp. Look for the trout to be holding in the top 20 feet of the water column.
There have not been many anglers fly fishing at the lake, but with more trout moving shallow every day, fall fly fishing should explode any day now.Back To Reports
