DON PEDRO BASS, KINGS & RAINBOWS
(La Grange) Manny Basi of The Bait Barn reported “very good” bass action at Lake Don Pedro.
“Anglers working close to the bottom with watermelon or green pumpkin Senkos or Berzerk swimbaits are finding a pretty solid bite,” disclosed Basi. “We are seeing some top water action with Lunker Plunkers with rattles as well as the tried and true poppers. Look for water 0-20 feet deep off main lake points.”
Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing reported low fishing pressure at Don Pedro and anglers are missing out on great action.
“Anglers are still preferring New Melones, but I have to tell you, Do Pedro is kicking out some quality fish and worth a shot," said Smith. "I have been trolling the Chucker-T spoons in the 2-2.5 mph range and have seen limit style is action on my recent trips. The kokanee bite is tapering off, but the kings and trout continue to produce. Anglers should work water off Jenkins Hill or Big Oak Island for the better concentrations of fish.”
Smith and his dad, Don, had a great day on Tuesday, August 17 when they landed 15 rainbows in the 2 to 3 pound range, keeping their limits of 10 fish. “We had several double hook-ups,” noted Smith. “The fish were gorging on shad at 30 to 50 feet deep.”

    Great Places to Fish
The San Francisco bay offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities. All the anadromous species pass through the Golden Gate during their migrations. In the bay you will find California halibut, leopard shark, sturgeon, and striped bass. The sportfishing fleet frequents the Cordell Banks and the Farallon Islands. Both are excellent rock fisheries and during the season you will also find salmon. The local reservoirs provide warm water fresh fishing with the most notable being San Pablo Reservoir. Every once and a while you hear of a bass pushing 10 lbs. If you're in the Bay Area and you just have to fish, this might be the spot. Pier fishing is available at Pacifica and Berkeley.
