Janet Thompson caught this and several more nice largemouth at Lake Amador on Jan. 23 using a morning dawn 67mm Duh spoon in 40-50 ft. We caught and released 7 nice bass in about 4 hours. We found the fish holding in main body creek channels, where ever the schools of shad were balled up.
We took a trip to Lake Almanor in July last year, to check out the smallmouth bite. We started out catching quite a few 2-3 lb. smallmouth just north of the state park boat ramp, dragging and shaking 6" worms. Then we headed over by Bailey Creek where she caught a 3 1/2 lb. smallmouth, which ended up being the biggest smallmouth of the day.
Proceeding north up to the causeway, we were fishing the old roadbed, when Janet saw a nice Rainbow swim by. She picked up a rod rigged with a perch colored Rapala, cast it out in the area of the fish and hooked it immediately. Of course this was also the biggest trout of the day at 3 lb., mine was only 2.
Then we went right up to the causeway and started fishing 6" worms right where the pipes go under the road. Right away I caught a 3 1/2 lb. largemouth, my first on ever, after 25 years of fishing Almanor. And again-- as I was releasing my fish, Janet say's I GOT ONE.
She boated a beaaaautiful 6 lb. Largemouth. What a day!
Next it was the delta to go Bass fishing on day last Sept. Just after we idled out of the marina, I noticed a lot of birds diving at bait at the mouth of Georgiana Slough, so we shut off the big motor and started spooning for stripers.
