Janet Thompson with 8.66 lb largemouth bass

A Lucky Man!

I am very fortunate to have a fishing partner like Janet Thompson! Sometimes she even lets me catch the bigger fish. I have sent you an assortment of pictures that are pretty impressive.

This one is an 8.66 lb. largemouth that she caught last summer in a night tournament at Lake Amador. With this fish we were able to finish in 5th. place. Just after first light, we went to an island top that was about 25 ft. deep and she put on an 11" Gatortail worm and started dragging it real slow. The fish hit right away and when it came to the surface -- well let's just say --- HOLLY COW! 5 minutes after I netted the fish, Janet was still shaking. That was her biggest largemouth ever!

Janet Thompson with largemouth bass Janet Thompson caught this and several more nice largemouth at Lake Amador on Jan. 23 using a morning dawn 67mm Duh spoon in 40-50 ft. We caught and released 7 nice bass in about 4 hours. We found the fish holding in main body creek channels, where ever the schools of shad were balled up.

We took a trip to Lake Almanor in July last year, to check out the smallmouth bite. We started out catching quite a few 2-3 lb. smallmouth just north of the state park boat ramp, dragging and shaking 6" worms. Then we headed over by Bailey Creek where she caught a 3 1/2 lb. smallmouth, which ended up being the biggest smallmouth of the day.

Janet Thompson with another largemouth bass Proceeding north up to the causeway, we were fishing the old roadbed, when Janet saw a nice Rainbow swim by. She picked up a rod rigged with a perch colored Rapala, cast it out in the area of the fish and hooked it immediately. Of course this was also the biggest trout of the day at 3 lb., mine was only 2.

Then we went right up to the causeway and started fishing 6" worms right where the pipes go under the road. Right away I caught a 3 1/2 lb. largemouth, my first on ever, after 25 years of fishing Almanor. And again-- as I was releasing my fish, Janet say's I GOT ONE. She boated a beaaaautiful 6 lb. Largemouth. What a day!

Next it was the delta to go Bass fishing on day last Sept. Just after we idled out of the marina, I noticed a lot of birds diving at bait at the mouth of Georgiana Slough, so we shut off the big motor and started spooning for stripers.

In less than 3 hours we caught 50 - 60 stripers using firetiger DUH spoons. Yeah, she caught the biggest one. We didn't weight any of them, but they were all 5-15 lbs.

Janet and I enjoyed an exceptional Salmon season last fall. This one (below) was only 22 lbs., but it sure took her for a run around the boat a couple of times.

Janet Thompson with 22 pound Salmon Rick Tietz with American River Salmon One day in Oct. last fall, I went down to the mouth of the American River to fish for Salmon but the Sacramento was too muddy, so I headed up in the American River about 1/2 mi. to the first hole and caught this 38 lb. salmon trolling a 93mm firetiger Duh spoon. A few minutes later I hooked bigger one, but----- it was fun while it lasted!
