I began fishing about 2 years ago, at age 39. My boyfriend lent me some equipment and I was hooked (pun intended). I fish every spare minute I can find and usually go alone due to the fact that I can't find anyone to tag along as often as I go. I live 7 miles from Frenchman Lake, which is very convenient, and fish from the shore.
One day not long ago, I was staring at my line, waiting for a hit, and along came the most fantastic person I have met in years. His name is Jim Schultz and he has been fishing for nigh onto 65 years or so (give or take a few).
As a novice angler, I pretty much use whatever tackle I have acquired or has been recommended to me, and don't always have great results. Well, Jim has been a wealth of information and has given me many lures, flies (he naturally ties his own), and has shared some useful tips on proper fishing techniques. I look forward to going fishing and seeing his old pick-up parked at our spot so I can visit with him and learn from his experience. I have found that most all other anglers pass by me with out so much as a glance, which is fine, but to have someone with so much knowledge take time out of casting to teach me about the art of fishing is a truly wonderful experience. I have even received a brief lecture about being a woman and fishing alone so often.
Jim Schultz is a person who gives true meaning to good sportsmanship and is a blessing to me. Often I will come home to find a different kind of lure or article stuck in my door that pertains to the previous fishing tips he has given me. I can't thank him enough for putting the wind back in my sails.........I am catching more fish than ever before! Thanks for reading. Robin Gallagher, Chilcoot, CA
