San Francisco Bay out of Berkeley has this easy pull when the halibut start moving in for the spring. You motor out from the marina with the city skyline catching the morning light and those East Bay hills rolling behind you, the water that familiar green-gray color that tells you the tide is doing its thing. It's not some far-off wilderness, just a solid day on the water where everything feels dialed in and ready.
Reel Addiction kicked off Halibut trips and their first trip back went off perfect. Captain Ben Mechling had a small crew out and they were into fish early, catching some and losing a few before they had eight halibut in the boat before noon.
“Today was our first day back on the Bay and it did not disappoint! Lots of fun with these guys goofing around catching and dropping fish all day. Ended up with 8 in the boat before noon.”
— Ben Mechling
Ben grew up fishing these waters so he knows the spots cold. If you're looking to put some fresh halibut on the table, Reel Addiction Sportfishing has dates open right now. Worth giving him a call to lock one in.
