Non-stop Trout Action at Folsom Lake
We caught up with Tom Mailey from Get The Net Fishing Guide Service, and the bite at Folsom is on a serious tear right now. For Tom, a day on the lake is about more than just filling a limit; it’s about sharing the technical side of the sport and making sure everyone on the boat walks away with a better understanding of how to find and hook these fish even when conditions get tricky.
Youngsters and Silver Fish
Back on February 22nd, Tom took a couple of youngsters out to get some time on the water, and they picked up the technique faster than expected. It turned into a busy day of reeling, and they wrapped up the afternoon with some great catches. They released three trout and a chinook to grow for another day, proving that the future of the fishery is in good hands with the next generation. Even with the recent rains, the water clarity stayed decent, and the bite was active right in front of the dam from the surface down to thirteen feet. A Pearl Optimizer and a chrome and orange Speedy Shiner did some work, but a pink Trout Trix set 150 feet back at speeds between 2.5 and 2.9 mph was the real MVP.
Birthday Luck and Surface Action
The steady action continued on February 23rd when Tom took Adam out for a last-minute birthday trip. There is no better way to celebrate than on a calm lake with trout surfacing all over the place. They went three for five, finding success with a white Trout Trix on a sideplaner and that trusty pink Trout Trix back 145 feet. They also picked one up on the chrome and orange Speedy at thirteen feet deep. If you are looking to get on the water and get a head start on the spring season, now is the time. This February trout bite is proving to be some of the most consistent action we've seen in years.
